2022 Honda CR-V vs 2022 Chevrolet Equinox near College Park, MD
2022 Honda CR-V Touring in Modern Silver Metallic (left) and 2022 Chevrolet Equinox (right) shown with available features.
The compact SUV segment is full of strong contenders, so we at Pohanka Honda in Capitol Heights are here to help you make a decision. When comparing the 2022 Honda CR-V with the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, you’ll see a clear winner. Visit us after reading to take the keys of the Honda model.
Performance
Everyone wants to compare strength right away, so let’s dive in. The CR-V has one powertrain option – a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that sends you flying with 190 horsepower1 and 179 lb.-ft. of torque2. On the other hand, the Equinox has a similar 1.5L turbocharged engine but only 170 horsepower. Plus, its 6-speed automatic transmission is no match for Honda’s Continuously Variable Transmission in terms of smooth acceleration and gear shifting. Fuel efficiency matters as well, and Honda boasts a 28/34/30 MPG city/hwy/combined3 rating to keep you cruising for longer with fewer stops. Chevy pulls up short, as its contender only offers 26/31/28 MPG city/hwy/combined4. These numbers both apply to the FWD configurations of both vehicles, but they also offer available AWD.
Interior
The cabin matters too since this is where you’ll spend your time while driving. You’ll be pleased to know that the 2022 Honda CR-V offers heated front seats just one step up from its base trim, and covers them in leather upholstery a few levels later. If you want the same features in your Equinox, you’ll have to upgrade almost to the top trim level and add an optional package. Similarly for comfort in winter and summer, automatic climate control comes standard for the CR-V while Chevy’s model starts off with a manual system. If you plan to use your vehicle for vacations or hauling lots of groceries, you’ll definitely want the Honda as it boasts up to 75.8 cubic ft. of cargo space5. The Equinox falls quite short with its 63.9 cubic ft. of storage volume6. And while both offer a leather-wrapped steering wheel to complement the seats, only the CR-V pairs it with an available leather-wrapped shift knob.
Safety
Differences continue into the protective systems of both vehicles. The 2022 CR-V has standard Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow7 that isn’t offered at all in the Equinox. While both have their own version of Forward Collision Alert8 or Warning9, Honda takes it a step further with their Collision Mitigation Braking System™10. This not only makes you aware of an impending accident, but actively helps you avoid it. On top of that, you can rely on the CR-V to keep you on the straight and narrow with its three different systems for helping you stay both in your lane and on the road. Conversely, the Equinox only has two programs and neither work to ensure you remain on the pavement.
