Two of the standout competitors in the segment are the 2026 Honda HR-V and the 2026 Hyundai VENUE. Performance
The 2026 HR-V features a significantly more potent powertrain than the VENUE, with its standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine generating up to 158 horsepower1 and 138 lb.-ft. of torque2. Hyundai’s vehicle includes a standard 1.6L 4-cylinder engine, topping out at 121 horsepower and 113 lb.-ft. of torque. This means you’ll enjoy more muscle while merging onto I-495 in Honda’s SUV. Both models provide three different drive modes, but the HR-V includes them as standard, while you’ll need to upgrade to a higher trim to acquire them in the VENUE. Hyundai’s three options do not include anything like the Econ mode included in the Honda vehicle, so you cannot direct its engine to focus on preserving fuel. Additionally, the HR-V provides sharp handling and a smooth ride with features such as its standard multi-link rear suspension and available AWD capability, neither of which is offered by the VENUE.
Interior
One of the first things you’ll notice between these two SUVs is that the 2026 Honda HR-V is notably more spacious, with 98.7 cu. ft. of passenger volume compared to the VENUE, which sits at 91.9 cu. ft. Second-row passengers will be particularly grateful to have 37.7 in. of legroom in Honda’s vehicle compared to 34.3 in. provided in the Hyundai. This extra capacity is even more evident in the cargo area, where the HR-V offers a maximum 55.1 cu. ft. worth of space3, while the VENUE is limited to 31.9 cu. ft. total4. Beyond the extra roominess, the HR-V offers available amenities such as an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and leather upholstery that are not provided on any trim level of Hyundai’s SUV.
Technology
Both of these vehicles provide a suite of tech features to keep you informed and entertained while traveling around College Park, but you’ll quickly notice the HR-V has the edge thanks to features such as its 9-in. standard touchscreen, compared to the 8-in. version in the VENUE. Wireless Android Auto™5/6 and Apple CarPlay®7/8 are both standard across the two models, but you’ll have a more enjoyable listening experience when you cue up music in the HR-V thanks to its available 8-speaker sound system.
