For decades, the Civic and the Accord have been two leading contenders in their vehicle classes. The Civic is a compact car that is available in a coupe, a hatchback and a sedan body style, and it has been a popular model since its release in 1972. The Accord is a midsize sedan that has been a top pick among drivers since its launch in 1976. While it is easy to categorize these two popular Honda models together as you try to narrow down your options and make a thoughtful vehicle selection, a detailed review will show you how different these vehicles are.

Stunning Exterior Design

As a compact car, the Civic is notably smaller than the Accord. The sedan version is available with four doors, and the hatchback and coupe options have two doors. This small car notably an aggressive, forward-facing stance that gives it the look of a sports car. The hood slopes downward into the grille, and the grille angles upward toward the headlights. The Accord, on the other hand, is a regal sedan that is only available with four doors. It has a rear-facing stance that gives it the look of a sporty yet sophisticated fastback car. The hood slopes very gently downward into a large grille that has distinctive character.

Interior Features

Both of these models are designed to accommodate five passengers, but the Accord understandably has a more spacious interior because of its larger exterior dimensions. Depending on the trim that you select, your Civic will come with heated leather seats, Bluetooth hands-free technology, cruise control, sports pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Honda Sensing technology, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more. The Accord is equally well-equipped, and it has many of the same features as you will find in the Civic. It also comes with a heads-up driver’s display, a power flow monitor, a satellite-linked navigation system, multi-angle awareness and a few additional features. Our sales associates are available to answer your questions about standard and optional features in each trim level.

Powertrain Options

The Civic and the Accord for 2019 are available in several gas-powered powertrains as well as hybrid variations that come with a lithium-ion battery. One powertrain that is available in the civic is a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine with a manual or an automatic transmission. An option for the Accord is a 1.4-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine. This is mated with an automatic transmission or a continuously variable transmission. You can expect both Honda models to have an excellent suspension system, traction and stability controls, anti-lock brakes and other exceptional features.

The new Honda Accord and the new Civic are appealing models to consider taking home. However, because of their variations in sizes, body styles, features and more, you may now be leaning more toward one model.
