For three generations of productions now, the Honda Pilot has been one of the top three-row crossover SUVs around: thanks to its overall comfort, handling, and refinement. With the 2019 model year, the nameplate gets a major facelift—refreshed exterior, new standard features and options, and a revised 9-speed automatic transmission—to retain its top-flight status in the industry. The vehicle is still available in five variants: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.

Performance

Powering the 2019 Pilot is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The LX- and EX-level trims get a 6-speed automatic transmission while the upper-level Touring and Elite roll with the previously mentioned 9-speed and get additional idle stop technology. You can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and all trims save for the LX have an “intelligent traction management” system.

Interior

The 2019 Honda Pilot is designed as a three-row vehicle, with a maximum capacity of seven people on the Elite (due to two captain’s seats in the second row) and eight on the other trims (due to a second-row bench-style seat). Standard on the SUV are cruise control, Active Noise Cancellation™ technology, cruise control, remote keyless entry, push-button engine start, a 4.2-inch multi-information color LCD screen, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a USB port and auxiliary audio jack for connecting mobile devices, and seven-speaker 215-watt audio with a 5-inch color LCD screen. Options or upper-level features include leather seat trim, power adjustability and a two-position memory system for the driver’s seat, front-seat heating and ventilating capabilities, remote engine start, a smart entry system, tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, an 8-inch high-resolution screen (in place of the 5-inch), Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for smartphone-based control, HD Radio™, hands-free text messaging ability, HondaLink® remote connectivity, SiriusXM® satellite radio service, a second-row Blu-Ray-based rear entertainment system, and a navigation system.

Safety

For safety, the 2019 Pilot starts off with features such as vehicle stability control, hill start assist, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, a multi-angle rearview camera, daytime running lights, and six airbags. Now standard on the Pilot is the Honda Sensing® suite, which combines lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and collision mitigation braking.
