What are the different types of chargers?
- Level 1: A Level 1 charger uses a standard 120-volt household outlet, making it the most accessible and straightforward charging option. While it requires no special installation, it provides the slowest charging rate, making it good for overnight charging (or plugging in all day at your workplace). It’s generally fine for drivers who have shorter commutes or otherwise don’t drive a whole lot.
- Level 2: A Level 2 charger operates on a 240-volt outlet, similar to the type used for large household appliances. It offers a significantly faster charging rate, typically adding about 20 to 30 miles of range per hour. Level 2 chargers are commonly installed at homes, workplaces, and public charging stations, making them great for daily use and more frequent charging needs.
- Level 3: Level 3 chargers, also known as DC fast chargers, provide the speediest charging. These chargers use direct current (DC) instead of the alternating current (AC) used by Level 1 and Level 2 chargers. DC fast chargers are typically found at public charging stations along highways and in commercial areas, making them handy for quickly recharging your vehicle during long trips or when you’re on the go.
